Holy Yoga -- Mondays and Wednesdays

Holy Yoga embraces the essential elements of yoga: breath work, meditation and physical postures. In all of these elements Christ is the center of our worship and intention. We are happy to offer a welcoming, safe, community minded environment for all people to authentically connect to God with our heart, soul, mind and strength.

Keri Engelsman is offering Holy Yoga classes on Monday from 7am-8am  (slow flow- provides poses that range from gentle to challenging with a focus on alignment) and Wednesday at 7pm-8pm (Yin-passive, seated practice that holds poses for 2-4 minutes to target connective tissue to increase flexibility) in the gym. Cost is $10/class, there is no registration and classes are ongoing. All levels of practice are encouraged to attend. Bring water and a mat if you have one.

You can follow class schedule and updates on Facebook at Alive and Thrive Yoga.

Rick and Ellen Burnette

Rick and Ellen Burnette

At this special service, we will be joined by guests Rick Burnette, Domestic Disaster Response Manager at CBF; Ellen Burnette, Executive Director of Cultivate Abundance; and Ellen Sechrest, Manager of Global Missions Engagement at CBF. CHBC’s relationship with the Burnettes dates back to 2000 and our mission trips to Thailand. We plan to commit to the Burnettes in a new way by becoming an Encourager Church for them through CBF Global Missions.

Steve Clark and Annette Ellard

Steve Clark and Annette Ellard

In 2006 Steve Clark & Annette Ellard were appointed CBF Field Personnel and CHBC committed itself as an Encourager Church for them. We plan to renew this commitment as well.

CHURCH PHOTO

After worship, we will gather in the main level of the Sanctuary to take the first church-wide photo of CHBC in 8 years!

 CHURCH LUNCHEON

A church-wide luncheon, provided by some of our Karen members, will follow the churchwide photo with further sharing from our special guests. Please make plans to join us for worship, lunch, and dialogue with our missions partners!

WHAT IS A CBF ENCOURAGER CHURCH?

A congregation becomes an Encourager Church when it formalizes its relationship with specific field personnel. CBF suggests that Encourager Churches include four encouragement areas: prayer support, program support, short-term engagement, and financial support. Encourager Churches seek to deepen relationships, cultivate mutual transformation, bear a consistent witness, and focus on financial stewardship.

LOVE SINGS LOUDER September 15 - Iroquois Amphitheater - 2-4 PM

A Community Sing-a-long

The Crescent Hill Baptist Choir and The Temple Choir will sing together as a part of this. This is a free, community-wide, multi-faith, multi-cultural, inter-generational program.

"Racism is on the rise. Anti-Semitism is accelerating. Islamophobia is increasing. Mass shootings are multiplying.

The world needs some love … so let’s sing.

That’s exactly what Louisville is about to do.

A coalition of faith-based and civic partners, led by the Jewish Federation of Louisville, is organizing a Sept. 15 program at the Iroquois Amphitheater, called Love Sings Louder, where a cross-section of Louisvillians – perhaps thousands – will come together and sing as a powerful gesture of unity." About this Event

Carmichael's Bookstore is proud to present Wendell Berry at the Crescent Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 26th at 7PM!

Since the 1977 publication of his masterwork The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture, the writing of Wendell Berry has shaped the conversation about how we choose to eat, farm, and live. One of America’s finest literary voices, Berry advocates with wisdom and forthrightness for local family farmers and sustainable land use. Join us to celebrate the 2019 publication of the authoritative two-volume collection of Berry’s influential nonfiction, What I Stand On: Collected Essays 1969-2017(Library of America) to discuss the damage done by today’s industrial agriculture and how Berry’s ideas enhance the public discourse on saving our natural resources and rural communities.

WENDELL BERRY is a novelist, poet, farmer, and environmental writer and activist. He has published over fifty books, including more than two dozen books of poetry, sixteen essay collections, and eight novels. In 2010 he was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Obama, and in 2013 he was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2016 he received the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Book Critics Circle. He has made his home with his wife, Tanya Berry, in Henry County, Kentucky, for the last fifty years.

Wendell will be joined in conversation by Mary Berry and Walter Robb.
